24 Hours, 18 Pianists, Over 180 Works. A Record-Breaking Tribute to the Poet of the Piano!
2027 will see the sixth annual 24 Hours Series, and this year, the Concert Hall isn't to be dominated by symphonic music. Instead, we have chosen a composer who devoted his life to the piano and thus changed the music of that instrument forever: CHOPIN!
Born in Poland in 1810, CHOPIN was a musical prodigy who, at age 20, moved to Paris to find a larger stage — about one month before his country's failed attempt at breaking away from imperial Russian rule broke out, which caused him to be unable to return to his motherland before dying at age 39. His longing for Poland transformed into music and brought such Polish dances as the mazurka and polonaise into music history. SCHUMANN praised CHOPIN's work, which remains highly influential to this day, as "cannons buried in flowers."
In addition, preludes, études, waltzes, and nocturnes were elevated to new artistic heights under his pen, and several orchestral works, including two concertos, broke new ground in combining the piano and orchestra. At 5:00 p.m. on February 20, 2027, 24 Hours CHOPIN will start with an unprecedented 18 pianists who will perform over 180 works within 24 hours to show us the unlimited possibilities for the piano!
