► Stray dogs that had lived at the Weiwuying grounds since its planning stage were adopted in the spirit of friendly coexistence as a guard dog squad. As we took care of them, they kept Weiwuying safe and served as ambassadors that had won the hearts of so many of our visitors.

►Accessible seats for those with limited mobility were added to the Opera House. With retractable armrests and adjacent seats designated as companion seats, people who use assistive devices found seating more convenient and inclusive.

►With a rise in the Covid-19 threat, Weiwuying introduced six forms of infection control measures, such as the use of Goldshield antimicrobial, UV disinfection, and escalator sterilization, to ensure safety during work and programs.

►The Learning Arts Together series of videos debuted on Weiwuying's YouTube channel, with organists and musicians who played traditional Chinese instruments introducing facts about music in a fun way.

► Weiwuying participated for the second year in Earth Hour by turning off wall washer lights at Banyan Plaza from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 26 in answering the call to save energy and reduce carbon emissions while not disturbing any events.

►Weiwuying and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature held the Advanced Literary Adaptation Workshop, in which participants adapted classics of Taiwanese literature into short play scripts which were then presented as staged readings by southern Taiwanese performers.

► Bolero in Kaohsiung, part of Weiwuying's Dance Travel Project, prepared to launch on April 23. Choreographer CHOU Shu-yi led professional dancers and students from Tsoying Senior High School to perform at different public spaces in 14 of Kaohsiung's districts, furthering cultural equity.

►National Performing Arts Center General and Artistic Director Liu Yi-ruu, Joyce CHIOU, and CHIEN Wen-pin began another consecutive term at their posts. The board of directors gave achievement reports for each center and announced new areas of focus: inclusivity, sustainability, Green Theater, and education.

► Weiwuying launched the Interactive VR Tour, through which guests could experience a 360-degree look at each of Weiwuying’s four indoor venues. Also, the membership system was upgraded and youth memberships became free.

►Weiwuying Green Thumb was held again for participants to learn about the flora at Weiwuying and make pressed flower bookmarks and potted plants.

►Weiwuying and the National Museum of Taiwan Literature held the first Literary Adaptation Workshop, in which instructors and theater workers adapted classics of Taiwanese literature into play scripts for teens, promoting arts education to that age group.

►The eight schools participating in Weiwuying Theater Arts and Education Project (including Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School and Cishan Junior High School for the first time) conducted their stage reading performances online, undaunted by Covid-19.

►In response to Covid-19, Weiwuying launched online performance viewing, support for artistic creation, and talent training, taking action to keep the performing arts alive and well.

►With a Level-3 Epidemic Alert issued because of Covid-19, Weiwuying closed its venues and disallowed use of the Public Piano but held an online micro-performance call for submissions so as to maintain support for performing arts groups.

►Weiwuying resident artist CHOU Shu-yi and CHENG Chih-chung created The Center to be performed at Weiwuying as an exploration of what is at the center of one’s life via dialogue with the body. Also, more inclusivity was introduced to the venue. 

►In response to the French-initiated International Day of Consultations, Weiwuying invited nine artists to serve as “art consultants” to provide attendees with physical and psychological therapy through poetry, music, and dance. 

►Weiwuying took the reins of the 2021 Creative Maturity Platform and opened proposal submissions for the first time to students in higher education, encouraging the younger generation to engage in exchange with curators and venues and giving them opportunities to perform.

► E.SUN Cultural and Educational Foundation, Weiwuying, and the Taiwan Music Institute put on an exhibition in homage to the great Taiwanese composer KUO Shi-yuan’s work and a memorial concert for his centennial birthday.

► #Since1994, a circus act by the all-female Eye Catching Circus, debuted at the Weiwuying Circus Platform, overturning circus stereotypes in both a brilliant and touching way.

►Weiwuying and Fubon Group teamed up to put on workshops related to physical movement and staged reading to give those with physical or mental disabilities the chance to participate in artistic creation.
